 Highlights for Spring '09

  Pieris

Pieris is a beautiful evergreen shrub with great multi-season interest. This excellent landscape plant has several qualities from exciting contrast in colors as the new growth emerges to the millions of buds and blooms of early spring. Mountain Fire produces pendulous white flower cluster and beautiful fiery red new growth.  Valley Valentine has deep red buds that open to bold pink flowers, while new growth is bronze colored. Grows 5’ tall and wide. Flaming Silver has variegated green and white foliage with red new growth and has white flowers on a 5’ tall and wide shrub. Prelude is a dwarf selection with pure white flowers on a globe shaped plant. Slow growing to 3’ tall and wide.

Flowering Quince-

Early blooms in several colors add an interesting oriental look to a garden. Prized for large flowers, bonsai potential, and attracting birds, flowering quince makes a great focal point in any garden. Available in dwarf standards, contorted and shrub forms with red, orange, or pink blooms.

 Gold Cluster

Spring Glory

Forsythia-

These early bloomers sport the vibrant yellow flowers that have become a fixture of spring dreams. Their flowers precede their leaves producing long branches of blooms.   Bronxensis is a dwarf, compact, dense growing shrub with profuse lemon yellow blooms and bronze fall color. Grows 18” tall and 3’ wide.  Gold cluster has golden yellow flowers packed on the stems and is a more compact shrub growing 5’ tall and wide. Spring glory is a showy mound of brilliant yellow and is great for screens and backgrounds growing 8’ tall and 6’ wide. This variety also comes in tree form so it’s perfect for containers.

SMALL SPACE FRUIT TREES

Even the smallest gardens can be a source of fresh home grown fruit. Dwarf and semi-dwarf fruit trees are perfect in pots, courtyards and small sized gardens. It’s not the fruit that is small, but rather the tree and though the trees stay smaller, fruit productivity is high.

GPG SPECIAL $5.00 off any bare root fruit tree

Grays Premium Lawn Care Works!

Gray’s Lawn Fertilization program is designed to give you deep green color, maximum root development, thick full turf, minimal thatch build-up and slower actual total growth. These results, are compared to the most common and popular fertilizers, such as Scotts.  Gray’s products are unconditionally guaranteed for your satisfaction. Using our formula, you will have the most beautiful green lawn in your neighborhood unless, of course, your neighbors are using it too!  We guarantee it!

We listen! Thanks to those GPG members who provided great feedback regarding a fourth application for optimum results!  See the attached PDF for the option of a fourth application!

The Grass is Greener! 101 Lawn Care

There are three basic criteria that determine price/value in lawn food:

Overall quality of the formula which is referred to as the analysis or N-P-K rating. The average lawn consists of millions of tiny plants that require a balance of nutrients in order to survive. Any analysis that is incomplete, while it may give visual results, will leave your plants more susceptible to disease and infestation.

Nitrogen, the primary ingredient in lawn food is the element that is subject to the greatest variation in quality. Nitrogen used to be available in a very simple form now referred to as fast release. All of the nitrogen was made immediately available to the plant which resulted in burning and a very short duration of benefit, causing the lawn to wash out quickly requiring more frequent application. More recent developments have allowed for controlled slow release of the nitrogen in order to prolong the benefit and lessen the stress on the plant.

Environmental Impact is a concern many of us have. When nitrogen is released it converts to nitrates in a form that pollutes rivers and streams. If the nitrogen is released faster than the plant can absorb it, the remaining nitrates migrate into the drainage system becoming a problem. The latest innovation in Gray’s Premium Lawn Food is a temperature released polymer-coated nitrogen. This allows the nitrogen to be available at a consistent rate and only in the temperature range in which the plant feeds – between 60 and 95 degrees.

Gray’s Premium Lawn Foods are the only formulas available with 70% slow release

polymer coated nitrogen and are specially blended for the Willamette Valley. Get

the most for your dollar and the greenest, healthiest lawn while using the most environ-

mentally friendly synthetic formula available!
